Wellbeing
At our school, student wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. We want every student to feel safe, included and ready to learn. Whether your child needs help with their mental, emotional, social or physical wellbeing, we are here to help them thrive at school and in daily life.
How we support student wellbeing
Supporting each student’s mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing is part of everyday school life.
We do this through:
- teachers who help students feel welcome and included
- access to school counsellors, school psychologists and specialist staff
- programs that support health, social skills, attendance and positive behaviour
- help for students who are new or changing year levels
- clear expectations for behaviour and respectful relationships
- staff who get to know each child and work closely with families
- developing health care plans for students
- open communication about wellbeing and support.

"I chose Harcourt Public School for my two sons because it offers a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child is encouraged to thrive. The dedicated teachers, engaging learning experiences, and emphasis on values and community make it an outstanding place for growth. I appreciate how the school fosters curiosity, confidence, and respect, which are qualities I want my children to develop.” — Annie, a parent of Harcourt Public School
We build a positive school culture
Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL)
Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL) helps us create a safe, respectful and supportive school environment. It gives our school a clear framework so students know what is expected and feel confident in their learning. Through PBL, we teach and encourage positive behaviours and support students to build important social and emotional skills—such as understanding their feelings, caring for others, making good choices, and working through challenges. Our staff work together to model these behaviours every day, helping students feel connected and valued. By setting clear expectations and recognising positive behaviour, we see fewer disruptions and more focused learning time for all students.
Restorative Practices
Restorative Practice is the approach we take to strengthen connections—between teachers and students, between students themselves, and between our school, families and the wider community.
When problems or conflicts occur, we use restorative practice to help students take responsibility, understand how their actions affect others, and work together to make things right. Instead of looking for blame, we ask questions that help students think about what happened, how people were impacted, and what needs to happen next. This approach builds positive relationships, encourages empathy, improves behaviour, and teaches lifelong skills for solving problems and restoring harmony.
Our school has an ongoing partnership with Real Schools who provides our school community with resources, access to expertise, and support to make the best use of restorative practice tools to benefit all learners.
"The teachers and staff at Harcourt have supported our child both emotionally and academically. They have provided every opportunity for his success and development and are always happy to communicate honestly and practically. We love the inclusiveness of the school and its focus on growing good human beings.” — Rochelle, a parent of Harcourt Public School
